u need a partron?

Wow! Why, yes! I do! No one's asked me up until this point! Wootzor!

I'm a free agent until I can dedicate enough time to actually show up online enough to be a productive member of a clan (hopefully CapFan's).

Gawd, I could kiss Thurwyn . . .

It's not an uber collection of bows, but I'm convinced that the money I save in salvage materials and outright cost to buy workmanship 4 & 5 bows is outweighed by the slight damage difference.

Mostly thanks to Thurwyn, here's my array. I sold my +166%, +12 melee AR bow for tons of sings, seeing as how I never used it.

Copying chat to bowcollection.txt. Run command again with no arguments to turn off.

BS/2: (Missile) Ivory Longbow, CS, 7 tinks, (6) craft, +154% +14m, DmgGrade1c: 100%,100%, Def V, BD V, SK VI, Minor Blood Thirst, Diff. 123, Bow 290+, Value 12,331, 636BU

---The old reliable when my mage hunting partner is imping everything. However, as of late, I use it less and less, what with rending and all.

BS/2: (Missile) Silver Yumi, FireR, 8 tinks, (6) craft, +158% +7m, DmgGrade1c: 90%,90%, BD VI, SK V, Minor Def, Diff. 128, Bow 290+, Value 7,238, 615BU

---This does me just fine on Tusker Island. I wish the melee were higher, but it does have that minor defender.

BS/2: (Missile) Silver Yumi, PiercR, 8 tinks, (6) craft, +158% +10m/+2.5mgcd, DmgGrade1c: 90%,90%, Def V, BD VI, SK VI, Strength Self V, Minor Invulnerability, Diff. 56, Bow 290+, Sho, Value 5,197, 575BU

---This is a surprisingly good ventilator of baddies. I guess in retrospect, I should have done slash rending on this one, since it has the magic D bonus, for use against Virindi.

BS/2: (Missile) Gold Nayin, ColdR, 8 tinks, (6) craft, +158% +10m/+1.5mgcd, DmgGrade1c: 90%,90%, BD VI, SK V, Quickness Self V, Diff. 113, Bow 290+, Value 3,326, 848BU

---I did this one on a lark. However, it turns out that it's really nice against Vapor Golems, and was indispensible when I just soloed the Mt. Lethe quest.

BS/2: Silver Yag, BludgR, 8 tinks, (6) craft, +150% +16m, DmgGrade1c: 80%,80%, Endurance Self V, BD VI, SK VI, Diff. 109, Bow 290+, Value 8,341, 347BU

---Yawn. First of all, there is nothing so ghey as running around in full covenant, standing up to a ton of Olthoi (or some plats/pyreal golems) while holding what appears to be a toy bow. Yags just suck all the testosterone outta ya. I tinked it up to 150% with hog, and then balked at Thurwyn's chance with tink #6. BUT, tinking it with brass for tinks 6, 7, and 8 have given this a nice little balance. Pretty good damage, and I evade very well (um, except when surrounded).

BS/2: (Standard salvage) Gold Nayin, LightR, 6 tinks, (8) craft, +130% +16m, DmgGrade1c: 55%,55%, Bow 290+, Value 15,209, 454BU

---I tinked this entirely with brass because the craft is so high. A nice result, however. I can stand up to Lugian Raider Juggernauts, with thier hollow EVERYTHINGS, long enough to make it look like a decent fight. Note that BS/2 thinks this weapon is "salvage," now because of my tinking choices! ;-)

BS/2: (Missile) Oak Yumi, SlashR, 7 tinks, (6) craft, +154% +10m, DmgGrade1c: 90%,90%, Bow 290+, Value 1,130, 601BU

---Papa's got a brand new bow. I bought this bow for 5 plats in the MP, presumably because of the new weapons coming out, and people's disgust with workmanship 6 bows. Big whoop. This isn't so bad.

Mt. Lethe quest

I had planned on making gobs of XP in the Tusker Holding, but went there and promptly missed the jump down to the bridge (by "missed," I mean that I jumped down normally, and landed on approximately 357 Rampagers, who then happily crowd surfed me to the edge of the bridge and threw me off).

Humph. So, I couldn't get out, and just recalled home. Then I noticed in my inventory that I still had the Mt. Lethe directions, giving the coords of the magma tubes dungeon, about 15 clicks from Ayan. I figured, "Hey! I'm completely buffed to fight things with fire, why not go somewhere that requires cold-based weapons and make myself COMPLETELY useless!?"

Sigh. Time out to mule briefly (I had stripped down equipment to make more room for my tusker hunt), and off I go to Ayan. The run to the Magma place wasn't so bad. I dove into the dungeon.

Luckily, I had a recent cold-rending bow, and went at it with the baddies. It's a pretty linear dungeon, and so soloing wasn't too hard. By the way, this is a COOL dungeon (haw, get it?).

Until the end.

At the end, there's this "Virindi Overseer," who you fight after killing everyone else. Now then:

Cold rending bow: 5 points (seriously, I think that was a critical hit).
Pierce rending bow: 9 points.

I was taking so long to kill this Virindi that:

1. I swore that if he leveled while fighting me, I'd just type @die.
2. The monsters behind me started to respawn.

So, I literally looked past the Overseer, and saw the pool of Mt. Lethe water. "What the hell?" I thought. So I gemmed away his debuffs, ran to the pool, got the water, and took off for home.

Showed HIM, boy.

P.S. Lots of lockpicking needed in that dungeon. I was VERY close to selling back pick. Goes to show you that having it can come in handy if you just feel like doing a formerly open quest you'd never gotten around to finishing.

Um, remember that thing about no deaths?

So, it's Sunday evening, and I'm in the Matron Hive, as I made so much XP the night before that I nearly ran the table on 88th level, after spending way too long at 87. I check in with Lanfear (read: get another buff-outfitting!), and off I go. Things are quiet, and if anything, I'm cocky. I've got the Redskins game on, and am delighting in them snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory once again (I'm a 49ers fan, so I am GOOD and bitter!).

A group shows up (it was some of the al-Thor clan). They were perfectly nice guys, and I figure "Woot! I'll show em that I can contribute! Look at my Infinity xp meter! I was rocking already, I'll really turn up my effort for them!"

The next thing I know, I'm at a long wall (mistake #1), allow myself to get surrounded (mistake #2), and then am slow on the draw to get some more stamina into me (strike 3!).

>>>Olthoi Swarm Eviserator runs you through!
>>>Death says, "Hiya gimp! Longtime no see! You didn't want that melee defense tattoo, did you? Ha ha ha!!!!one"<<<

I not only died, but I dropped my tattoo (don't ask why I'm not wearing it yet, long story). Funzor.

So it's back to Lanfear, and back to the hive. Vitae's gone like a second later, and I'm off to find a good spot to once again kick in my share to the fellow. Thank goodness for BS2 finding my body for me.

Anyway. You know those big acid pits? There had to be --minimum-- 20 bugs spread out in one, and there I am (Imagine a capital letter "M" with me in the middle at the entrance to the pit, but the bugs are clustered down a hallway along each side of the "M").

I run into the pit, and (in my mind) say, "Nyhha! Nyhaa!" and then run back out.

>>>You suffer 31 damage from acid!

Ouchie. But no big whoop. However, only like 2 bugs are following me out at a time.

So, I run back into the pit, and run (this is true) into a corner.

>>>Olthoi Swarm Noble says, "DOGPILE ON THE GIMP!"
>>>You suffer 31 damage from acid!
>>>You suffer 31 damage from acid!
>>>You suffer 31 damage from acid!
>>>Death holds his sides, laughing.<<<

I think I was down to about 50 health, when I kinda realized that I had better get the hell out. I just had to figure out HOW, since there was a wall o' bugs in front of me, like that movie "Joe's Apartment," except that the bugs were conga-line-dancing at the thought of eating my oh-so-tasty flesh:

>>>Olthoi Swarm Soldier says, "Tequila!"

Anyway. Tai thinks quick (or at least as quick as this gimp can think), and comes up with this series:

1. Jumping over them ---MIGHT--- work, but:
1a. If I died, I would look even more like a tool than I already did to the al-Thors, and
1b. One of them had asked me in public fellow why I was making him lag so much (he asked if I was gearing -- if he only knew that I'm so pathetic that I just started using decal in earnest a month or two ago, and only began experimenting with it a month or two before that!).
1c. Body recovery in an acid pit could only be done by people who remember the days of the Metos pits. Yes, I r teh old skool.

So I figured I'd already caused them (the al-Thors) enough grief, albiet without malice. That left option #2

2. Crack an Aphus Lassel portal gem and GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!

>>>You have been teleported<<<

At this point, I've peed my covenant out of fear, but I send a tell in the Fellow, to the effect of:

>>>You say to your fellowship, "Thanks guys, and good hunting. See ya around!"

Yeah, assuming you're "around" monkey island that is.

A little known (I suspect) secret of Aphus Lassel is that if you just run on the beach and kill everything you see, you'll make pretty decent XP (well, assuming you're me. God help you if you are, though). I guess I can get it from 6-8 million an hour. You've got variety (you have to kill EVERYTHING you see, by the way), and no UCMers to deal with. I just shrug, buff my fire bow, and take off.

Yeah, I meant to do this. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Merry Christmas!

Hope it was a good one for you. :-) Had a blast with my family, and left pretty tired. I hadn't planned on logging in, although there's no shame in playing on Christmas. Heck, it seems to me that logging in is a great way to get away from it all, so if you needed to get a break, hope you found one in Dereth! I lurked the boards once or twice (literally) to answer some PMs, and check on a curious auction I eventually won.

But later that night when I got home, I got in some serious time in a matron hive -- I haven't ever spent much time there previously, and tend to leave when there's a large fellow -- too solitary of a player, I guess. But last night was a total blast! There were some guys in there who quickly added me to a fellow, and they were perfectly nice. We had a good run going there for a while: The radar just covered in dots, angry bugs all over and a pretty nice run of salvage. Ate up serious time, and I wasn't even aware of it.

And still no deaths in weeks! Woot!

Pincer quests

After a good run of the pincer quests, I think they really aren't so bad in terms of taking up a ton of time, if you're really diligent about just doing it. I don't know why I looked on them as such a chore before.

One reason for not switching from AC . . .

. . . is the people.

I know, I'll bitch and moan over numerous people from the boards who drive me nuts, and I can't help but find d00ds entertaining, but rank-and-file AC players (at least those who have done it for a long term) are really good people. They realize that AC is not a chat room, but enjoy using it for that, and it's not Doom, or whatever the FPS du jour is. AC's a nice hybrid.

I got a reminder of that tonight. Just a few minutes ago, in fact.

The thrill is going (gone?)

For some reason, I haven't logged in much lately, and I haven't missed AC. Bummer. I wonder if I'll get it back?

VN auctions

Sigh. I really gotta start asking what time zone auctioneers are in before I bid. Like the last two auctions I've won have been from people way out of my time zone (US EST). Makes it tough to find em. It's not their fault, it's just a hassle.

More drama on the VN boards

I might as well use this thing as a soapbox, but I'm not shedding ONE tear over the ass-ramming Kiaya's taking on the VN boards.

On the other hand, I have NOT written a "review" (but I'm damn sure reading them, and they're cracking me up).

The reason that I haven't written one yet is this: One thing I've always done (with one exception around the time of Poolrad) is just sit back and WATCH the drama, for purely entertainment purposes. It allows one nice (and unexpected) side-effect: Later on, you can easily remember little points, kind of like remembering bits out of a tv show (a sleazy reality one). I like that. It's nice to be able to pull out minutae (like Shadrach's stint pretending he was a girl, Woodsman/Extreme coming to the boards, and then "re-coming" pretending to be a swordsman (I PM'd him, because I recognized his writing style, and a distinctive emoticon before we had faces).

Anyway: I am enjoying watching Kiaya get reamed out, because it sickens me that she has to start 20 posts a day just to announce every time she farts, etc. And a good half of her posts could/should be PMs, but she's too in with the mods to receive warnings for that.

Keep those reviews coming, they're cracking me up (the Laurianna one nearly made me fall out of my chair laughing)! She pulled the link out of her sig, but it's around the PublishAmerica site somewhere (you sleuth that one out, I won't provide a link, again as part of a neutrality issue). But have fun!

It's been like 4 weeks since I've gotten killed in-game . . .

. . . of course, I've only had time to play maybe 20 hours in those 4 weeks, lol.

I r teh gimpy. :-)

But, I just hit 87th level, and am really enjoying using my tradebot to wheel and deal, so things aren't that bad.

I can't help it . . .

. . . but I love evaders. I don't necessarily endorse the people they attack, but some of the stuff they come up with is hysterical.

Here's a line about Gwydiana:

"i bet she headbutts your mop head while shes givin you a reach around you wrinkly old sea hag"

See? Genius! I mean, I happen to DIG Gwyd, but that doesn't matter -- that's a funny fucking line!

And I used to love invasions just for the appearance of Virusman. He was an artist.

Cool monarchs of Thistledown

There's actually quite a few:

Peanut II

Todoshi Matsudaira

And of course, there are lamers.

I find that I particuarly dislike Redfist, not because of anything in AC, but moreso because of the way he conducts himself in his writings. It appears to me that he thinks far too highly of himself than he is, and that his "monarch" status only fuels that.

Anyway, I'm alliance-less, after sticking with my old one for almost 5 years. I'm on the market. I'm going over a few, but some just aren't working for me for absolutely no fault of the Monarchs:

Juzam is out because Lamir (Gosser) is in his alliance. I can't abide attention whores such as Gosser, and while I completely respect Juzam's defense of Lamir, I just can't see myself in the same clan as him. But, Juzam still gets major points for being a fellow Covenant-afficionado. :-)

Chunglee rocks, and everything about him rocks. I just don't like Kiaya Elam, or whatever her name is, so I'd rather not be in her alliance.

Todoshi's out only because of the time zone problem.

Currently thinking AS1 or P2. Have a really intense enjoyment of P2's website, and his code of conduct.

We'll see.
